Trains will run on “slab tracks” through the Fehmarn Tunnel

The railway tracks through the Fehmarn Tunnel will not be installed on sleepers resting on a ballast layer of gravel or stone. Instead, they must be mounted directly on concrete slabs at the bottom of the tunnel tubes. The technique has great potential.

Finland has an eye for the element factory

In Finland, a fixed connection between Vaasa and Umeå and one between Helsinki and Tallinn is being debated. On Monday, Finland’s ambassador to Denmark visited the tunnel construction site in Rødbyhavn, and he got something to write home about.

It can be hard to get it all in a selfie when it comes to bridge construction. The chairman of the Danish Parliament's transport committee, Rasmus Prehn from the Social Democratic Party, nevertheless made the attempt when the committee visited the construction sites on both the new Storstrømsbro and the Fehmarn Tunnel.

The Transport Committee on bridge and tunnel inspection

The Danish Parliament’s transport committee visited two construction sites on Monday. The “problem child”, the new Storstrømsbro, reports, despite financial mess, reasonable progress. The Fehmarn building site coped with a triple cloudburst in fine style.

Casting work on the first tunnel segment is already in full swing. Femern A/S does not want to answer what it will mean if the project has to be postponed at this advanced stage.

Femern A/S: Scandlines is concerned about competition

The state-owned construction company behind the Fehmarn connection has little to say to the criticism of the project’s CO2 account, which is raised in a KRAKA report commissioned by Scandlines. However, Femern A/S refuses to deal specifically with the criticism.

Environmental assessment of permanent element factory ready

Sund & Bælt has published the so-called environmental impact assessment of a permanentization of the element factory in Rødbyhavn. The overall conclusions bode well for conservation after 2029.
